Farage Most Trusted on Defence, Polling Reveals National Security Concerns
Nigel Farage has emerged as the most trusted political leader on national defence, according to new polling, highlighting growing public anxiety over Britain's security capabilities.

Nigel Farage has been identified as the most trusted political leader when it comes to defending the nation, a finding that will undoubtedly boost Reform UK ahead of local elections. This pivotal revelation, as reported by the Daily Express, comes from Ipsos polling data, indicating a significant shift in public confidence.
The Ipsos research shows that 32% of voters trust Mr Farage a “great deal” or a “fair amount” on defence. This figure surpasses Kemi Badenoch of the Conservatives at 30%, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer at 29%, and the Liberal Democrats’ Sir Ed Davey at 25%. Worryingly for the Green Party, their leader Zack Polanski garnered trust from only 23% of Britons on this critical issue.
Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge insisted voters should trust the Tories, stating the party has a plan to invest 3% of GDP on defence, according to the Daily Express. He claimed, “Conservatives are proud of what we did in Government to stand by Ukraine, and help keep that country in the fight.” However, a Labour source countered, “The Tories hollowed out our armed forces across their 14 years in power, leaving the Army at its smallest size since the Napoleonic era.” Reform UK’s Danny Kruger added, “After decades of chronic underinvestment... it is no surprise that voters no longer trust the Conservatives or Labour.”
This widespread lack of trust, with Ipsos director Keiran Pedley noting that at least half of Britons do not trust any UK political leader much on these issues, reflects a deep-seated public concern. The polling indicates that while the Conservatives hold a slight edge on party trust for defence at 34%, Reform UK is a close second at 32%, suggesting a significant challenge to the established parties on a core government responsibility.
The implications are clear: with national security concerns soaring following events like the war in Iran, the public is actively seeking credible leadership on defence. This Ipsos poll puts Nigel Farage firmly in the lead on this crucial metric, setting a clear challenge for the other party leaders to regain public confidence on military matters before the next general election.
