Green MSP Branded Queen Elizabeth a 'Lizard', Sparks Outrage

A newly elected Scottish Green MSP, Iris Duane, has ignited a political firestorm after a deeply offensive social media post, referring to Queen Elizabeth II as a "lizard," resurfaced. This biological male, identifying as a woman, was elected to represent Glasgow and immediately faced calls for apology and clarification from opposition parties.

According to the Daily Express Politics, the controversial post, dated January 2022, explicitly stated: “I cannot wait till big lizard Lizzie kicks the bucket, not because she’s dead but because of the absolute meltdown it will cause the British consciousness.” This inflammatory remark, made before the Queen's passing, has led to accusations of deeply disrespectful judgment against the Greens.

Scottish Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser condemned the remarks, stating: “Her late Majesty devoted her life to public service and was admired in Scotland and around the world for doing so.” He added, “These disgraceful comments from this newly elected Green MSP are deeply offensive and disrespectful. Most Scots will find them abhorrent.” Reform UK also called the post “appalling” and demanded a full apology from both Duane and the Scottish Greens.

The Scottish Greens have attempted to downplay the incident, with a spokesman claiming the comments were made “years ago” and were “intended as a joke,” confirming the post has since been deleted. However, this explanation has been dismissed as inadequate by critics, who highlight the profound disrespect shown towards a monarch who dedicated her life to public service.

Despite the controversy, the Greens have given no indication of disciplinary action. The pressure now mounts on the party to unequivocally condemn Duane’s remarks and issue a formal apology, or risk further alienating ordinary British people who hold the late Queen in high regard.
