Reform Promotes JCB Pothole Machine After £200,000 Donation
Reform UK leaders have repeatedly championed JCB's pothole-fixing machine, the 'PotHole Pro', following a substantial £200,000 donation from the construction giant to the party, according to The Guardian.

Reform UK's top brass, including Nigel Farage and Lee Anderson, have been relentlessly promoting JCB's 'PotHole Pro' machine, a revelation that comes after the party received a hefty £200,000 donation from the digger manufacturer, as reported by The Guardian.
This pattern of endorsement is stark. Nigel Farage, for instance, dramatically entered a Birmingham rally on one of these machines, declaring that Reform-run councils would adopt it. This public praise, as The Guardian highlights, preceded JCB's significant financial contribution to Reform UK in November last year, a company previously known for its donations to the Conservative Party.
Mr. Farage, speaking in March 2023, called JCB “one of the most incredible companies in the world,” adding, “This machine can mend potholes at half the cost that currently is being charged by other commercial operators.” He then pointedly asked, “aren’t potholes just the perfect symbol of broken Britain?” The Liberal Democrats, citing this connection, have now lodged a complaint with the Electoral Commission, questioning whether “public contracts may be being traded for political patronage.”
For ordinary British taxpayers, this raises serious questions about the integrity of public procurement. While Reform sources insist councils work with contractors and decisions are based on effectiveness, the optics of party leaders championing a donor's product are concerning. It casts a shadow over whether decisions are made purely on merit or influenced by political contributions, impacting how public money is spent on vital infrastructure.
Indeed, two Reform-led councils, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, have now adopted the PotHole Pro. Lincolnshire County Council, despite a previous trial in 2021 finding the machine ineffective, now states the PotHole Pro is “here to stay” after an eight-month trial, a decision that will undoubtedly be scrutinised as the Liberal Democrats' complaint progresses with the Electoral Commission.
