Reform Targets Green-Voting Areas For Migrant Centres, Sparks Fury
Reform UK plans to build migrant detention centres exclusively in Green-voting areas, sparking widespread condemnation for what critics call a 'grotesque' policy designed to punish political opponents.

Reform UK has unveiled a controversial plan to locate new migrant detention centres solely in areas that vote Green, a move critics are calling an outrageous act of political bullying. This policy, announced by Nigel Farage’s party, explicitly states that no such facilities will be built in constituencies electing Reform MPs or councils.
According to The Independent Politics, Reform’s home affairs spokesman, Zia Yusuf, confirmed this strategy, stating, “If you vote in a Reform council or Reform MP, we guarantee you won’t have a detention centre near you. If you vote Green, there’s a good chance you will.” This declaration comes as both Reform and the Green Party anticipate significant gains in upcoming council elections.
Labour Party chair Anna Turley slammed the proposal, telling reporters that this “grotesque policy reveals Reform’s contempt for all voters – including their own.” She added, “Threatening to punish places where people don’t vote your way is a betrayal of basic democratic principles.” The Scottish Green co-leader Ross Greer labelled it “bullying” of the electorate.
This aggressive stance is framed by Reform as a response to the Green Party’s alleged support for “open borders,” but it has provoked a strong backlash. Critics argue it demonstrates a profound disregard for democratic principles and ordinary people, effectively weaponising public infrastructure to settle political scores rather than addressing the actual issue of migration management.
The immediate consequence is a deepening of political division, with Reform openly declaring war on its opponents through infrastructure policy. This strategy will now be tested at the ballot box, as voters in Green-leaning areas will undoubtedly consider Reform’s explicit threat when casting their votes in the upcoming local elections.
