Reform UK is demanding an immediate general election, declaring the Labour Party unfit to govern amidst its deepening leadership crisis. This forceful call, reported by the Daily Express, highlights the political deadlock in Westminster and the profound instability within the main opposition party.

According to the Daily Express, Reform MP Danny Kruger stated that changing the Prime Minister is not in the national interest, instead warning that Labour would drift further left to appease members and militant unions. He explicitly declared, "The Labour Party is absolutely unable to govern in the national interest," arguing that the current split is dragging the country down due to "poor leadership."

The internal turmoil within Labour is undeniable. Wes Streeting resigned as Health Secretary, openly criticising Sir Keir Starmer's "mistakes" and "lack of vision." Following this, Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Manchester, announced his intention to return to Parliament, with a Labour MP stepping aside to force a by-election. Labour MP Jenny Chapman condemned this manoeuvre, stating voters were being treated as "pawns in your imaginary political chess game."

This unfolding drama means ordinary people are left with a government unable to command authority and an opposition consumed by infighting. The political class seems more focused on internal power struggles than on the nation's welfare, with Mr Kruger insisting the focus should be on reducing welfare and increasing the defence budget, not leadership squabbles.

Sir Keir Starmer will not block Mr Burnham's bid for the Makerfield seat, but he must now win over local members and then voters. This will be a significant challenge, as Reform UK swept every council seat in the area during the last local elections, and Nigel Farage has vowed to contest the by-election aggressively.
